Lean into the amazing summer produce options for learning It foods and flavors There's definitely some kind of fruit or veggie in season in the summer that you can include on the plate. Use this link to see what's In season and challenge yourself to expose your kid to as many of them as possible. You can even print the list and include your kids in choosing learning it foods that are in season.
When you're at a BBQ, instead of resigning yourself to your kids mainlining hot dogs and ice cream, grab a plate for the hotdog and take one small bite of something else offered (think: Potato Salad or even a new-to-them type of chips) and put it on their plate. There’s no pressure to eat it. Just having it on the plate is exposure for their brains. The only other thing you can do is encourage them to sit down while eating, but I know that’s hard at a party! And that's the end of your responsibility as the feeder. Go enjoy your meal!
I know summer is peak unstructured time, but whenever possible it will help you in the long run if you can set some kind of structure for meals/ eating. This can look like:
sticking to meal times
saying Yes AND your meals so you're offering a balanced meal (even If it's a snack!)
Carving out time for seated, plated meals
