Routine Revamp Pt. 2
Contemplating Our Daily Routine
What do you do all day? (Besides make it to bedtime) When was the last time you really looked at it or thought about it?
Well, today is that day!
Just a few days ago I skipped my morning practice- “I’ll get to it later” I said to myself, “I’ll do these other tasks first” - and can you guess what happened? Of course, I never got to my practice. And the rest of my day was the worse for it. But it is just that simple. What we prioritize, gets attention, what gets attention functions well. What doesn’t get attention, doesn’t function well.
It’s not shocking and it’s not rocket science. But what IS shocking is just how easily we drop ourselves out of the running for attention and how often we do it, effectively saying to ourselves- you don’t matter, you can wait. We then wonder why our health and our emotions suffer and as a result our relationships and our work.
So today, we are going to work in reverse! We are going to build a routine ONLY around you and then add back the things we need to do to run our lives. I caution you to examine the “need” category before adding items back in. (Do our little ones really “need” another activity on the calendar more than your family needs some chill time with nothing planned)
So here is my challenge to you….
(Perhaps during your Solo Cup) Write out your ideal day- start to finish- you can do this for a week day and a weekend day- what would you do, what time would you do them, who would you do them with. Be specific from wake up to bedtime.
Then- plug this into one day next week. As mandated plug one or two “must dos” into your dream day but that’s it. Build your life around the dream rather than waiting for space to build the dream into your life.
Jot down all the things that come up at the end of that day! Then check in and let me know how it went!
With great respect and love,
N
