Hello Sadhakas!
I grew up in Southern California. One thing Southern California is known for is surfing. It's part of the culture. Part of the genes, the bones, the DNA. And as such it was virtually impossible to escape my teen years without giving it a try myself. As it was my dad is a surfer from back in the 60s and at the time one of three sisters was on the surf team. And so somewhere around 11 or 12 my short-lived career with surfing began. In the end it was too cold and too early for me but what I did learn stuck with my quiet viscerally, even to this day.
You have to ride the wave. If you fight what is- you fall. The sport is the art of finding the flow and going with it, becoming one with it and the bliss that comes in those moments of unity with the divine. It's learning how not to force, but how to feel and observe and honor and be with the flow.
If that isn't a micro of the macro, I don't know what is. This my friends is where we find ourselves OFF THE MAT this week. It's time, in this month of mindful manifesting of our year to come, where we talk about the flow.
ON THE MAT we arrive at the asymmetrical base of revolved side angle. We look at two legs doing different things, how we add a twist to that and how we do it all while creating strength and ease, not pain and injury.
Here is where the two things intertwine.
A magical part of the human body, is that every single thing within it has a purpose. A reason for being. And together all those parts make up our bodies. And together, all doing what they are meant to do, we live in pain free health and harmony. But here in lies the rub- life and the choices we make often ask these beautiful parts to do things they weren't meant to do. We ask the lumbar spine to curve posteriorly, we ask the muscles to do the job of the bones, we ask the sympathetic system to live in a constant "on" state. And on and on it goes. And the body will do those things for us. She, will do what she was not meant to do. She will do it for as long as she can- but eventually- pain will ensue. Why because asking any part of our Selves to do something not within their dharma will lead to pain. This is true in the body, in our minds, in our hearts and everywhere else in our lives.
It is better to live your own life's purpose, even imperfectly, then to be trapped in someone else's even if perfectly.
How freeing and true is that?!
You came here with specific purpose: Things to do, lessons to learn and people to be of service to. When you are doing those things, life is at ease. It is NOT necessarily easy, but there is an ease in your soul because even when you are fighting you know you are fighting the right fights. Does that make sense?
Have you ever had a job or been in a relationship that you knew were wrong for you?
There is an overwhelming feeling in your gut-right?
This feeling is one of the worst, but also one of the best. Why, well it too, serves a purpose. It eats at you, gnaws at you, it's there all the time and it grows and grows until you have two choices- pain or change.
This week we explore where we feel the flow, where we go against it and how we can realign to live in a state inspired by the divine.
Yup- we're going spiritual surfing people!!! Come with me- surf's up dude!
With great respect and love,
Nicole
